North Plantation, Guernsey

Despite the plans passed some time ago by the Environment Department to clear the site and create a performance area and al fresco area we have been approached by a sub group of the St Peter Port Douzaine to suspend the larger task. In cooperation with that group we have obtained permission to create a garden within the Plantation which has opened up the area considerably. The Police were very pleased with the end result which has made their job easier when previously the area was overgrown and activities in the undergrowth could not be seen.

We are now striving to find an acceptable compromise to open up the area at the Thomas De La Rue end to utilise approximately 1/5 of the total area which can be dedicated to an Al Fresco facility. Lovell Ozanne Architects are in discussion with the planners to find a solution and States Property Services will then seek expressions of interest once they have the known area available to use in negotiations.

It is hoped that the amount of money paid for a say 10 year lease will provide funding for the Al Fresco area, the road and the area in front of the Visitor Centre. The Town desperately needs more al fresco areas for the public to enjoy entertainment .
