Through a Town Centre Partnership initiative we have been installing granite benches
throughout the Harbour to replace, in many places, the old wooden type benches which suffer because of the lack of up-keep.
In addition, in consultation with the Harbourmaster, sites have been identified where there have been no facilities for the
public to sit and enjoy the delightful views within the busy Harbour.
There
are two types of Bench which have been accepted by the Environment Department. One is a cantilever type, which is attached
to the Harbour wall in a number of areas and the other is a stand alone type.
The
Careening Hard, Crown Pier, Albert Pier, St Julian’s Emplacement, The Fisherman’s Store close to the Model Yacht
Pond and the Viewing area at the Model Yacht Pond are locations for the 60 benches which have now been installed.
In addition one bench has been installed on the walkway beside the North
Beach Car Park where we have permission to install in total 24 benches.
