As part of the streetscape strategy, Town Centre Partnership have facilitated the replacement of lighting poles and fittings between the Albert Pier and the St Julians Avenue roundabout. This has brought about a long awaited consistency in the lighting provided along the seafront.
The hope is to persuade Government to extend the scheme from the Slaughterhouse to the Salerie corner thus providing a complete set of Harbourside lighting which has never before been seen in St Peter Port.
Town Centre Partnership have also enlisted the help of the Constables of St Peter Port whom have obtained permission from their Douzaine to provide festoon lighting which can be fitted directly into the Lighting Poles. The Lighting poles also contain Planters which should have plants installed by the spring to compliment the displays provided by the Douzaine and the Environment Department which help enhance St Peter Port.
The Strategic Property Unit of Treasury & Resources Department is totally supportive and is hoping that the next phase can be undertaken within the 2008 budget. Town Centre Partnership have arranged for the Lighting advisors from the UK to visit the Island to undertake a review of the seafront lighting at no cost to the States.
